Gary Scales, Ph.D., CPST, STAC-I
While studying the history of sensory and material mechanisms at Temple University, Gary spent two years working in disability advocacy. The designer of specialized seating apparatus to help those with disabilities travel aboard commercial aircraft, Gary is also a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST). Gary has additional qualifications in School Bus safety and is one of less than 100 people certified by the Indiana University School of Medicine to teach the ‘Safe Travel for All Children’ CPST enrichment course.
During his studies, Gary became aware of the public health success of child passenger safety. Also a survivor of a major childhood school bus crash, Gary started CPSOMA in 2024 to help preserve and further the success and stories which have protected so many on America’s roads for over a half a century.
Always fascinated by transportation, Gary is also a leading expert in the history of the American gas stations, and works with medical professionals across the United States to produce and enhance knowledge regarding school bus transportation safety and accessibility.
